         ON Technology UK launches first in range of new products

        * Fast File And Text Search Software For Multiple Platforms
          * Real-Time Eliminator For Word Macro Virus Epidemic


ON Location for Networks and Macro VirusTrack are two new products
announced by ON Technology UK.   Now available, they are the first in a
range of new products that ON Technology will be announcing in the run up
to Networks 96.

ON Location for Networks provides a fast and simple way to find files or
a text string on both the network and the desktop.  It can search a wide
field from Appletalk, NetWare or TCP/IP networks and can retrieve files
and text from Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 3.1 and Macintosh System
7.x desktops.

Based on a highly-tuned indexing engine that creates a compact index of
all the files and text within those files, ON Location for Networks
allows users to make very fast searches.   By searching an index, users
can quickly spot where a file is kept or if any documents contain certain
words or phrases.  It respects all network security provisions,
prohibiting users from accessing files without proper access rights.

"Security hasn't been compromised," explained ON Technology's Marketing
Director, Mr Chris Huggett.  "If a search was made on 'director's salary'
by an unauthorised person, ON Location for Networks would not identify
documents normally restricted from the user's view."

The second product, Macro VirusTrack 6.0, is an anti-virus software
program that detects and removes the five known Word macro viruses, and
one significant trojan, before the malicious programs corrupt a Word
document or spread to other computer users.  This happens in real-time,
background mode, unlike many other anti-virus programs.

For example, some current Word macro anti-virus methods simply "cripple"
the virus leaving the corrupt document in place.  Some methods require
the user to invoke the anti-virus scanner before opening any Word
document, a manual and time-consuming process that even diligent users
may forget.  Some other methods only cover certain viruses.

Macro VirusTrack 6.0 has been tested by the US' National Computer
Security Association who have verified that the product protects against
the Word Macro class of viruses.  These viruses have quickly become the
most common type of virus to affect computer users.  They embed
themselves in .DOC files and automatically do their damage whenever
someone opens the document file.

Chris Huggett warned, "The Word macro viruses are reaching an epidemic
stage.  They are easily spread via documents attached to electronic mail
sent over the Internet or a corporate intranet, and by sharing corrupt
documents.  The way to prevent these new attacks from disrupting
productivity or worse, destroying data, is constant, automatic scanning
for all strains of the virus."

ON Technology's new Macro VirusTrack 6.0 is a sophisticated anti-virus
program that provides full background protection by scanning every
Microsoft Word document in one of two ways.

First, whenever the user attempts to open a Word document, Macro
VirusTrack 6.0 checks for any of the five known viruses.  If a virus is
detected, the ON program notifies the user that the document is infected
and prompts them to clean the virus from it before restoring the document
to its unaffected state.

The ON Technology anti-virus program can also be configured to scan and
clean documents on a user's workstation and network drives without the
user having to open each one individually.  Compatible with other
anti-virus products, Macro VirusTrack 6.0 provides transparent protection
without performance degradation at either the workstation or the server.

Both ON Location for Networks and Macro VirusTrack 6.0 are available
immediately in the UK following ON Technology Corporation's recent
acquisition of Slough-based Technocom's LAN business to create ON

The price of ON Location for Networks is based on configuration but as a
guideline, the cost of a 10-user network configuration would cost from
1100 ukp. Meanwhile, Macro VirusTrack 6.0 pricing ranges from 14 ukp per
user for 250 seats to 40 ukp per user for 10 seats.  The price for Macro
VirusTrack 6.0 includes access to ON Technology's Anti-Virus Hotline and
Virus Maintenance Programs
